How can we use it in analyzing the investment in Bitcoin?</h2>\n\n\n\n<p>An index is created to measure the greed and fear of investors in the crypto market. There may be some FOMO-induced buying momentum.&nbsp;</p>\n\n\n\n<p>The website stated that it has utilized data from 5 sources to formulate the Crypto Fear and Greed Index.</p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-dots\"/>\n\n\n\n<h2>Factors in calculating the Crypto Fear and Greed</h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When creating an index, it is imperative to note that there is a need for some indexing rules.&nbsp;</p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/dmDFCJvke2HmQKCGr3ESe2otQ7R-VdJ0Pq2adJPZ8Bd6TjIe15AL_jjUNkgU1pCAf73ndYOlW8DwzRmPF74ko3C7DduJRPeZ1o-xJ-N0Cn-cOWV_hL3VYmyJ7Hu29w\" alt=\"Bitcoin fear and greed\"/></figure>\n\n\n\n<p>At present, only Bitcoin is included in the index. Since Bitcoin is the cryptocurrency that when experienced with volatility, will have the largest effect on the market. This fact has also led to other criteria for indexing, including:</p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong><em>Volatility</em> 25%</strong></li></ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Calculated from the volatility and maximum drawdown of <a href=\"https://trade.zipmex.com/global/trade/BTCUSD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bitcoin’s price</a>, compared to the 30-day and 90-day average volatility. When volatility increases, this shows enthusiasm in the market.</p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong><em>Market Momentum/Volume</em> 25%</strong></li></ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Calculated based on momentum and trading volume like Volatility, by comparing the 30-day and 90-day moving averages when there is a strong volume on the buy side when the market is up. This translates to investors’ greed in the market.</p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong><em>Social Media</em> 15%</strong></li></ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Using Hashtag (#) for each cryptocurrency for analysis. The calculation is done with the rate and number of responses.</p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong><em>Surveys</em> 15%</strong></li></ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Surveys on opinions on the website which is temporarily closed</p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong><em>Dominance</em> 10%</strong></li></ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The percentage of <a href=\"/glossary/market-capitalization/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Market Cap</a>. of Bitcoin and <a href=\"/learn/what-are-altcoins/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Altcoin</a>, looking at Bitcoin as a haven when fears arise in the market and looking at Altcoin for speculating purposes only.&nbsp;</p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, looking at the share of Market Cap. can give insights to investors’ sentiment but of course, this is still controversial as the increase of the Altcoin market cap could be due to real interest from investors.</p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong><em>Trends</em> 10%</strong></li></ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Using Google Trends which analyzes keywords related to Bitcoin. It is not used as a buy-sell signal. If, however, it is used as such, we users may well get lost in the market sentiment.</p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-dots\"/>\n\n\n\n<p>In summary, measuring investors’ fear and greed in the crypto market can be done using the Crypto Fear and Greed Index.
